Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. has arrived in Nigeria for the first time as he moves to finalize a multi-million-dollar partnership with SPD Group, owned by Hon. Dr. Obeta Davidwilliams Uchenna.
The proposed agreement will see SPD Group’s fashion subsidiary, Beta Wears, play a strategic role in sponsoring and promoting Mayweather’s forthcoming bout against DDM. The partnership is expected to elevate the brand’s international visibility while strengthening business ties between Nigeria and the global boxing industry.
Dwilliams Uchenna , Chairman and owner of SPD Group, expressed optimism about the collaboration, describing it as a landmark opportunity to position Nigerian-owned brands on the global sports stage. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the deal will also involve collaboration with The Money Team (TMT), Mayweather’s promotional company, ahead of the highly anticipated fight.
DDM also arrived in Nigeria amid discussions, as SPD Group explores a broader partnership framework surrounding the upcoming match.
Originally slated to take place in Dubai, the fight has now been moved to Abu Dhabi following the cancellation of events in Dubai due to the passing of a former UAE leader.
If successfully concluded, the agreement will mark a significant milestone for SPD Group under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Obeta Davidwilliams Uchenna, reinforcing Nigeria’s expanding influence in global sports, fashion, and entertainment partnerships.
